RAGTIME UPDATE: Despite our marketing and outreach efforts, the audition turnout in several key demographics needed to successfully cast the show has been lower than expected, with a significant number of no-shows at our initial auditions. After reviewing the projected turnout for upcoming auditions, it has become clear that we will not be able to assemble the cast required to produce the show at the level it deserves.
This was not an easy decision to make. Ragtime is a powerful and important story, and it deserves to be produced with the care, respect, and diversity that the script calls for.
While this news is disappointing, we are excited to share an alternate opportunity. In place of Ragtime, StageWorks will be presenting the world premiere of a new musical that has been in development over the past several years. The musical, Raymie Nightingale, is based on the popular novel by Kate DiCamillo (author of Because of Winn-Dixie, The Tale of Despereaux, and Flora & Ulysses). This production features an all-female writing team and cast, and we believe it offers a wonderful and meaningful alternative for this season. The creative team (Brendan Stackhouse, Caitlin Martin, Jillian Mauro) will remain on for this show, as well as the writers of the show (Polly Hilton, Sarah Nelson) who will be visiting the process and production. We appreciate your support and understanding in this matter. If you have purchased tickets to Ragtime, they will be refunded.
